Steve Scalise to release ‘minute-by-minute’ memoir about near-death experience

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., is releasing a memoir days after Election Day in November, according to a new listing for the book.

According to an Amazon listing, the 304-page book will be titled “Back In The Game” and will detail the No. 3-House Republican’s near-death experience after being shot during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game last June.

“[‘Back In The Game”]’ is the Congressman’s story of his minute-by-minute fight for his life and his long recovery after he was shot at the Republican softball game [sic] in June 2017,” reads a description for the memoir, which is set for a Nov. 13 release.

“This tight, inspirational narrative includes a dramatic retelling of the shooting and the heroism of Rep. Brad Wenstrup – an Army Reserve officer and combat medic, along with the Capital [sic] Police, the first responders and trauma team who saved Rep. Scalise’s life,” the description continues.

The listing also said that Scalise will talk about the “power of prayer” that helped carry him through his recovery and will share stories of the “many miracles” that allowed him to live.

A spokesperson for the Louisiana Republican declined to comment on the memoir.

Scalise has been mentioned as a possibility to take over for the retiring House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., if Republicans retain the chamber in the November elections. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., a top ally of President Trump and the preferred choice of Ryan, is the favorite to takeover atop the caucus.
