David All of TechRepublican.com writes about Freedom’s Watch–the organization that many are familiar with largely because of their ads in support of the war in Iraq. He notes that while it went largely unnoticed in Washington, Freedom’s Watch aired an ad in the recently concluded special election in Ohio’s fifth district. He notes reports that Freedom’s Watch plans to spend $200 million next year, and says the organization seems set to play a major role in the 2008 election and beyond:
Congressman Chris VanHollen–the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)–says Freedom’s Watch may be the Democrats’ ‘main competition‘ in 2008:
VanHollen is wrong about one thing by the way: Freedom’s Watch is organized as a 501(c)4. If Freedom’s Watch does indeed raise and spend $200 million, it could have a huge impact. By way of comparison, the NRCC raised and spent less than $180 million in the entire 2006 cycle. Just another reason to be optimistic that 2008 may not be a bad year for the GOP after all.
