NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) — The charge against a woman accused of killing her mother-in-law in New York has been upgraded to first-degree murder.
The woman, Diana Nadell of Cutler Bay, Florida, was arraigned Wednesday in Clarkstown Justice Court. She pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and conspiracy.
The prosecutor said the murder-one charge was warranted because Nadell allegedly hired someone to help her with the attack on 80-year-old Peggy Nadell. The alleged accomplice is Andrea Benson of Washington, D.C., who is charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy.
Diana Nadell is accused of luring her mother-in-law to the door of her Valley Cottage home with a late-night call on Jan. 25, then she and Benson killed her in hopes of obtaining part of her multimillion-dollar estate.
Two other women are charged only with conspiracy.
