Walmart and Sam’s Club boosting cash bonuses for hourly employees during pandemic

Walmart and Sam’s Club will give cash bonuses worth more than $390 million combined to all hourly U.S. employees in June.

Employees working hourly schedules include store associates, those working in supply chain and offices, drivers, and assistant managers. The bonus will be $300 for full-time hourly employees and $150 for part-time hourly and temporary workers. To qualify, employees must be employed as of June 5. The payout will occur on June 25.

“Walmart and Sam’s Club associates continue to do remarkable work, and it’s important we reward and appreciate them,” John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart U.S., said in a release. “All across the country, they’re providing Americans with the food, medicine and supplies they need, while going above and beyond the normal scope of their jobs – diligently sanitizing their facilities, making customers and members feel safe and welcome, and handling difficult situations with professionalism and grace.”

The company provided an initial cash bonus for U.S. hourly associates earlier this year, which totaled up to $365 million.

Earlier this year, the company announced it would hire 200,000 new workers to keep up with the high consumer demand stores are facing during the pandemic.
