Washington Post reporter characterizes pro-life group’s sting videos as an ‘attack’ on Planned Parenthood

The release of secret videos showing Planned Parenthood affiliates discussing the harvesting of fetal organs represents an “attack” on the nation’s largest provider of abortions, according to the Washington Post’s Carolyn Johnson.

The Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life activist group, has so far released five undercover videos as part of a three-year-long investigation.

The “disturbing” videos show Planned Parenthood executives talking about “doing a little better than” breaking even for donating organs salvaged from the remains of aborted children. The undercover footage also shows Planned Parenthood affiliates seemingly discussing performing partial birth abortions so as to extract certain body parts undamaged.

It is illegal to profit from the sale of fetal tissue. Is it also illegal to perform partial birth abortions.

However, for the Post’s Johnson, the sting videos are more about “attacking” Planned Parenthood than they are about exposing suspected wrongdoing.

“A day after a vote to defund Planned Parenthood failed in the Senate, an antiabortion group continued its attack on the organization,” she wrote Monday in an article titled, “Antiabortion group posts another video attacking Planned Parenthood.”

“The video attack, which has been decried as unethical and intentionally misleading by Planned Parenthood, has rallied conservative opposition to Planned Parenthood,” she wrote, adding again that a recent vote to defund the group failed in Congress this week.

Johnson also made sure to trot out Planned Parenthood’s oft-repeated claim that the Center for Medical Progress’ videos are intentionally misleading due to their supposedly being “selectively edited.”

“The video, like previously ones released by the group, is highly edited,” Johnson wrote, referring to undercover footage released Monday.

With the release of each video, the Center for Medical Progress has also released hours of full, uncut footage. And along with the unedited footage, the pro-life group has also provided complete video transcripts.

The remainder of Johnson’s article is dedicated to quoting defenses from Planned Parenthood spokespersons. Her article also mentions two recent investigations, one in Massachusetts and one in Indiana, that found that Planned Parenthood affiliates in those states have not engaged in any illegal behavior.
