French President Emmanuel Macron says he wants to ‘piss off’ unvaccinated people

The president of France plans not to let the unvaccinated eat cake in the near future unless they get the COVID-19 vaccine.

President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on Tuesday that he wants to “piss off” unvaccinated people to encourage them to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Beginning Jan. 15, he said those who are unvaccinated could not go to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, or theaters, according to Reuters.

“The unvaccinated, I really want to piss them off,” Macron told the outlet. “And so, we’re going to continue doing so until the end. That’s the strategy.”

France implemented a health pass in 2021 that prevents people without a PCR test or proof of vaccination from entering restaurants, cafes, and other venues. Macron said he would not send the unvaccinated to prison, the outlet reported.

Marine Le Pen, a French lawyer and politician, criticized Macron’s statement, calling the French president “unworthy of his office” on social media.

Since Tuesday, 63,867 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in France. A total of 121,619 people have died from COVID-19 in the country since January 2020, according to the World Health Organization.
