After a video showing President Jimmy Carter commiserating with some of the poorest victims of Hurricane Katrina, the former president took a lap of the convention stage with his wife, Rosalynn, but made no remarks.
And just like the convention at which he was nominated 28 years ago, Carter was joined on the schedule with Sen. Ted Kennedy, who was also the subject of a video tribute.
After Kennedy’s 1980 primary challenge of the incumbent Carter fell short, the two shared a famously frigid moment on stage at Madison Square Garden following a stentorian speech by Kennedy. Now, the old campaigners were celebrated in video, but silent on stage.
