Former President Barack Obama shared a Memorial Day message on Monday, urging Americans to remember those who gave that “last full measure of devotion.”
“We can never truly repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes,” Obama wrote. “But we can remember them, honor their sacrifice, and affirm in our own lives those enduring ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity for which generations of Americans have given that last full measure of devotion.”

The tweet was posted at 12:02 p.m. to Obama’s 103 million followers, midway through President Trump’s speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after he participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Trump drew criticism for his own Memorial Day tweet on Monday, in which he claimed America’s fallen troops “would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing” under his administration.
