Customs and Border Protection has deployed tracking dogs to search for the missing mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, Arizona law enforcement confirmed on Tuesday.
“CBP’s role within this was in our search-and-rescue mission, where we constantly use them,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, noting that his department does not have tracking dogs. “And so they came out and did that.”
The FBI is another federal partner assisting the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84. She went missing unexpectedly over the weekend.
Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie may have been forcibly removed from her home, where she was last seen Saturday evening. It remains unclear who was behind the abduction.
“We’re downloading and analyzing cell phones, obtaining cell tower information, conducting interviews, and providing any and all investigative support that the sheriff’s department needs. We’re looking at this from every angle,” Tucson-based FBI agent Jon Edwards said, asking the public for tips.
“We are aggressively pursuing and looking into every single one again,” he added. “Please help us bring Nancy Guthrie home.”
The White House also urged anyone with information to contact 911.
“Our prayers are with the Guthrie family as we hope for Nancy’s safe return home,” the White House posted on X.
Nanos revealed her exact whereabouts are unknown, noting authorities are starting their search in Pima County before working their way out to other jurisdictions. The next media briefing is set for Thursday morning unless there’s a break in the case, he said before concluding Tuesday’s briefing.
Nancy Guthrie is limited in her movement and needs daily medication, which she would die without. Her pacemaker disconnected from her Apple devices when she first went missing.
