President Trump on Thursday told lawmakers he has a different philosophy than former President Barack Obama on who presidents should play golf with.
During a congressional listening session, Trump spoke of recently playing golf with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, who Trump said “played well.”
Trump also dinged Obama, who usually played golf on weekends with close friends instead of powerful people he was trying to make deals with.
“Well, I always said about President Obama, it’s great to play golf, but play golf with heads of countries and people like yourself when you’re looking for votes,” Trump told the lawmakers. “Don’t play with your friends that you play with every week. Does that make sense?”
A pool report said the congressional Republicans laughed at the line.
