The economy added 130,000 jobs in January, and the unemployment rate ticked down a tenth of a percentage point to 4.3%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Wednesday in a report that was delayed by the brief government shutdown last week.
The jobs numbers were far stronger than expected. Forecasters had expected that the unemployment rate would hold at 4.4% and job growth to total 66,000.
