A 67-year-old man died after he was found burning alive at a Fort Washington group home, according to Prince George’s County fire officials.
A caretaker, alerted by a fire alarm on Saturday morning, found the man engulfed in flames inside his room on the 2800 block of Cricklewood Drive, police said.
The man was rushed to the burn unit at Washington Hospital Center with second- and third-degree burns to nearly 80 percent of his body. He died Saturday afternoon.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but a spokesman says one possible cause could be that the man, who a smoker, had a smoking-related accident.
