Parents: Cheerleader planned to kill

Outraged parents of students at an Anne Arundel school said administrators ignored their children?s report of a student who brought a knife to school and plotted to kill them.

Parents said a student brought a knife to Lindale Middle School more than two weeks ago and compiled a list of classmates ? all teammates from a community cheerleading squad ? to attack, but school officials didn?t file a police complaint until Friday.

Several alleged targets spotted their names on a list posted on one teammate?s Myspace.com page and tried to alert school officials, they said.

“It was brushed off,” said Tina Layton, a mother of one student on the list. “The school said they didn?t want to cause any unnecessary worry, but that?s our decision to make. We would like to know if our child is in danger.”

Parents said they met with school officials Friday.

A county police officer was called to the school Friday, but officials said Sunday they had no information on the incident.

The student has reportedly been suspended, and school officials told parents they will meet with the student today to determine additional action.

Calls to school principal George Lindley?s home were not returned by press time.

Lois Mormon, who directs the Andover Apaches cheerleading division, said she will seek the student?s expulsion from the Linthicum-area program.

Her daughter was also on the list, which was posted by a teammate who said the alleged plotter confided in her and showed her a knife, Mormon said.

“My kid is afraid to go to school and she?s being treated like this is her fault,” she said. “The school?s response was, ?I don?t think anything will happen,? and I said, ?I don?t [want] my daughter?s life depending on what you think may … happen.? ”
