Alan Dershowitz, famous for his work as a criminal defense attorney, author, and legal commentator has taken on the #MeToo movement in his most recent book, slated for release later this year.
Dershowitz, 81, made headlines most recently when he was accused of having involvement in disgraced philanthropist Jeffrey Epstein’s supposed sex trafficking and assault scheme. Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who says she became Epstein’s sex slave as a teenager, claimed that she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz years ago. Though Dershowitz did represent Epstein as a client, he has flatly denied involvement in his supposed crimes.
“I have had sex with one woman since the day I met Jeffrey Epstein,” Dershowitz said of his wife, Carolyn Cohen, in his own defense earlier this year. He also characterized their relationship as having a “perfect sex life.”
Dershowitz’s forthcoming book, Guilt by Accusation: The Challenge of Proving Innocence in the Age of #MeToo, promises the most unimpeachable defense of himself against Giuffre’s accusations to date. The description from the publisher also promises indisputable evidence and an acknowledgment of Dershowitz’s innocence from Giuffre’s attorney David Boies.
A judge in Manhattan ordered Dershowitz to hand over an alleged recording between Dershowitz and Boies on Tuesday for forensic analysis. A public transcript of the call has not been made public, but there are reportedly indications that Boies acknowledged Dershowitz’s travel records provided contrary evidence to his client’s accusation.
Guilt by Accusation also promises in-depth discussion of “current attitudes toward accusations of sexual misconduct, which are today, in the age of #MeToo, accepted as implicit truth without giving the accused a fair chance to defend themselves and their innocence, and suggests possible pathways back to a society and legal system in which due process is respected above public opinion and the whims of social media mobs,” according to the publisher.
