With the release of the July jobs report on Friday, Morning Joe cut to CNBC correspondent Sara Eisen to report on the month’s strong numbers.
“Jobs continue to paint a healthy picture of the U.S. economy. 164,000 Jobs added in the month of July, that was pretty much what economists were looking for,” Eisen said. “They were looking for a headline of around 165,000 Jobs. The unemployment rate stays at 3.7% in this country, and that is just about at a 52-year low. It shows the strong gains we have seen in employment over the last few years.
“Wages also a bright spot in this report, rising 3.2% from this month last year, and that was actually a little bit better than economists were looking for and shows some progress in terms of the employers paying their employees,” she added.
The report comes as President Trump continues to have trade disputes with China, adding a 10% tariff on another $300 billion in Chinese goods.
As the U.S. enters the eighth month of 2019, the country is averaging about 165,000 jobs per month, which is slightly lower than the average 223,000 jobs that were added per month in 2018.
