Ex-NRCC treasurer gets prison for embezzlement

Christopher J. Ward was sentenced to 37 months in prison for embezzling funds from the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Ward, the committee’s former treasurer, was also ordered to pay restitution of $812,825.

He had pleaded guilty in September to stealing funds by issuing unauthorized checks and wire transfers from the NRCC and clients of his accounting and consulting business.

Ward, 43, used the funds to pay for landscaping work at his home and to make mortgage payments, court documents say.

He also filed false reports with the Federal Election Commission to conceal the embezzled funds, and his scheme caused others to also file false reports, prosecutors said.
