Andrew Napolitano: Michael Cohen’s interview worthy of causing ‘sleepless nights’ for Trump

Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano, a retired judge, was more than a little curious Monday as to what the motive was for President Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen to participate in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

During a stint on “Outnumbered Overtime,” Napolitano said he doesn’t understand why Cohen would have spoken in such a public way in the midst of a vast investigation for potential bank fraud and violations of campaign finance. Cohen made claims that Napolitano said are worthy of causing Trump to have “sleepless nights” if the substance of what he said proved true.

“I can’t imagine his lawyers would want him to do so. There is no good that can come from somebody who’s under a federal microscope,” Napolitano said, noting that Cohen could very well be arrested soon. The interview was Cohen’s first since the FBI raided his office and home in April.

“He’s not a subject of a criminal investigation like the president,” Napolitano said. “He’s the target of a criminal investigation. That means he is very close to being indicted for something.”

Journalist George Stephanopoulos conducted the off-camera interview with Cohen on Saturday. Excerpts were revealed on Monday in which Cohen said his “first loyalty” is to family and his country, an indication he may be prepared to provide damaging information on his former client, Trump.

“Michael Cohen was not only the president’s lawyer, he was his fixer,” Napolitano said. “The president asked him to do things that lawyers don’t typically do.”
