Trial date set for Benghazi terror suspect

A federal judge has set a trial date for Ahmed Abu Khattalah, the Libyan national suspected of orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Khatallah has remained in U.S. custody for more than three years while awaiting action from the Justice Department, which opted to try him in criminal court rather than treat him as an international terrorist.

The Benghazi suspect’s trial will take place on Sept. 25, 2017.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch has already announced she will not seek the death penalty for Khatallah.
