Tom Brady says Trump invited him to speak at 2016 Republican National Convention

NFL star Tom Brady said President Trump asked him to speak at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

The newly minted Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback joined Howard Stern on his radio show Wednesday morning and touched on his relationship with the president.

Brady said he declined the request because he “didn’t want to get into all the political [arena],” according to the New York Post.

He added: “The political support is totally different from the support of a friend.”

Brady has long had a friendship with the president and even had a “Make America Great Again” hat in his Patriots locker back in 2015.

“He sent it to me via R.K.K.,” Brady said at the time, referring to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. “He always gives me a call and different types of motivational speeches at different times. So now that he’s running for president, he sent me a hat, and he gave it to R.K.K. a couple weeks ago. So it found its way to my locker.”

Brady told Stern during the interview that his friendship with the president never affected his relationships with teammates in Boston.

“[My teammates] know me. They know who I am. I was with them every day,” he said.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated after the New York Post removed a portion of their report that claimed Tom Brady said he was “tired” of the criticisms leveled against President Trump.
