MontCo plans second town hall meeting for youth

The Montgomery County Council will host its second-ever town hall meeting for students next month.

To be held at the council’s Rockville office on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., the meeting is an opportunity for the county’s youth to express their views on issues such as the schools, libraries, parks or the proposed youth curfew, said Council President Valerie Ervin.

“When it comes to decisions affecting young people … the practice too often is to have one set of adults talk to another set adults,” she said.

The town hall will not be the council’s first opportunity to hear from youth on the subject of the contentious youth curfew proposed by County Executive Ike Leggett. At a public hearing in July to discuss the youth curfew — which will be discussed in committee on Thursday — several youth turned out to explain their opposition.

Students who wish to attend the town hall are asked to RSVP by calling 240-777-7931.
