Student tells Cory Booker she feels ‘visceral anxiety about climate change every day’

A college student conveyed to presidential candidate Cory Booker how concerned she was about climate change during MSNBC’s forum on the issue Friday.

And today, as we speak, millions of young people all around the world are taking to the streets and going on strike to demand climate action because we feel this incredible urgency.”

Friday also marked a day of protests in cities across the world by organizers who want bring awareness to the effects of climate change.

“If we’re going to have a livable future, we need a ‘Green New Deal’ and we need it as soon as possible,” she added, asking the senator how he would “deal with opposition from Republicans and from conservative Democrats” and if he would “consider supporting filibuster reform as a way to make the Green New Deal a reality.”

BuzzFeed News asked teenagers who skipped school to take part in the protests in New York City, “What will you miss about Earth when it’s too far gone to be saved?”

“Everything. I’m only 17. I haven’t lived. It’s scary,” 17-year-old Melanie Franco said.

“Everything. The Earth is in trouble and the grown ups are not fighting and protesting enough. They need to act now,” 9-year-old Avery Tsai said.
