WATCH: Sen. Cotton blasts border crisis: ‘Reserve asylum for who it’s meant for’

Sen. Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, blasted the Biden administration’s latest defense for ending Title 42, saying it makes America look like “suckers.”

Cotton appeared on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom Thursday saying asylum laws should not widely open up the southern border but rather be reserved for those who are attempting to escape persecution.

“[The Biden administration is] allowing Americans to be treated as suckers,” Cotton said. “America looks like suckers around the world. All you have to do is show up, say a few magic words. You’ve been coached, oftentimes by drug cartels or even liberal charities at our border, and they let you in. As opposed to reserving asylum for who it is meant for, which are people who are genuinely suffering persecution because of their religion, sex, or political views.”

The Republican senator also noted Biden’s hypocrisy on COVID-19 policy when choosing to end Title 42 but maintaining mask mandates on public transportation and supporting other Democratic efforts of masking young children.

“[Republicans] are insisting the Biden administration wants to continue to say there is a public health emergency and that’s why they have to have $10 billion more to spend,” Cotton said. “They don’t get to say there is a public health emergency and let in millions more illegal aliens.”

Cotton said he has seen reports indicating as many as 18,000 illegal immigrants a day could cross the border.

“That would be like adding the population of Atlanta to this country every single month,” Cotton noted. “There is no precedent for that. It is all because of Joe Biden’s failed policy and rhetoric going back to the campaign telling the world if you brave the journey to get to our southern border we’ll let you in. That’s the wrong message.”
