A pro-Trump political action committee is releasing television ads in support of Reps. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, two of President Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress.
With the 2020 elections coming to a full swing, the pro-Trump America First Policies PAC, who has former Fox News host and Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle serving as vice chairwoman, is investing $100,000 in television ads for the two congressmen, saying the pair have stood with Trump in “protecting America” and “(standing) up to socialists.”
The PAC’s move to support both Meadows and Jordan indicates the pro-Trump camp’s efforts to reward loyalists. America First Policies hit out against other Republicans, including ex-Sen. Dean Heller, who lost a closely contested Nevada Senate re-election battle against then-Rep. Jackie Rosen.
Both of the lawmakers’ districts are solid Republican districts. But the current maps in both those states could be thrown into a tailspin that could jeopardize both Meadows’ and Jordan’s stronghold on their constituencies.
The current North Carolina congressional map is still up in the air, with the state legislature and Democratic-controlled governorship engaged in court battles over the legality of the congressional map that gives Meadows such a strong standing. Should state Democrats emerge victorious in their court battles, the redrawn lines could pit Meadows against other strong Republican neighbors such as Rep. Virginia Foxx and House leadership favorite Rep. Patrick McHenry in a hotly contested primary battle.
Similarly, staunch Democratic advocacy groups and organizations have banded together to file a lawsuit in federal courts that challenges the legality of Ohio’s congressional map. Jordan’s congressional district is also surrounded by other long-term Republican fixtures and a redrawing of congressional district lines in Ohio could brew up a massive GOP primary battle in the new districts.
“America First Policies is proud to take part in the effort to ensure that voters in North Carolina and Ohio understand that Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows are fighting for their interests in Washington,” PAC spokesman Alex Titus said in a statement.
