President Trump is considering moving tax reform and a massive infrastructure spending bill at the same time, according to a report by Axios.
While Republicans have signaled they plan to at least begin considering tax reform this spring, the infrastructure bill wasn’t expected to start moving for months, possibly not even until next year. But with the healthcare bill unexpectedly stillborn, room in the legislative calendar has been freed up.
What’s more, Trump feels burned by the House Freedom Caucus, whose lack of support sunk the healthcare bill, and Trump has expressed a willingness to work with Democrats, the website reported. Spending on roads and bridges is generally popular on both sides of the aisle, and the bill could give Trump a chance to achieve an early bipartisan victory.
The measures would not be combined, instead moving simultaneously along separate tracks.
