The newly formed indoor football team, the Baltimore Blackbirds, chose Union Memorial?s Dr. Jason Hammond as their head physician.
They play their first game against the Reading, Penn., Express this weekend, and their first home game is March 31 at 1st Mariner Arena.
“Indoor football is a fast game, and the players are just as big as in the NFL. It?s just that we play in more closed quarters,” Hammond said in a statement. “There is a potential for injury ? it?s football ? but with Union Memorial, we offer top-notch medical care.”
Hammond is an orthopedic surgeon in the Union Memorial Sports Medicine fellowship program, which also provides the medical expertise for the Baltimore Ravens and the Blast.
