VIDEO: In D.C., Michael Brown’s family calls for formal investigation

The parents of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teen who was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo., last month, were in Washington on Thursday to ask the Justice Department to formally investigate the death of their son.

Brown’s parents were joined by civil rights activists and the Rev. Al Sharpton, who said more needs to be done in the investigation into Brown’s death.

Thursday also saw the release of a new video that shows Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson apologizing to Brown’s parents for the time it took to remove Brown’s body from the street where he was killed. Jackson apologized directly to Brown’s parents, while adding the investigating officers meant no disrespect to Brown’s family or the African-American community.

Al Sharpton said Thursday he is planning a rally and march in Washington; no further details were announced at Thursday’s event.
