The Justice Department unsealed an indictment on Tuesday that charges eight current and former Navy officials with felony crimes in the “Fat Leonard” bribery case that has unraveled for the past four years.
On one occasion, the indictment states, Leonard Glenn Francis, a defense contractor based in Singapore who was known as “Fat Leonard,” hosted a sex party for USS Blue Ridge officers at the Manila Hotel in February 2007, where “historical memorabilia related to General Douglas MacArthur were used by the participants in sexual acts.”
The Navy officials, including an admiral, have been accused of taking bribes in the form of expensive gifts, prostitutes and all-expense paid stays at luxury hotels between 2006 and 2014.
Senior Navy intelligence officer Rear Adm. Bruce Loveless, multiple Navy captains, and a retired Marine Corps colonel are charged in the indictment, according to a report.
Francis has pleaded guilty to defrauding the military branch of tens of millions of dollars. He received classified information from the Navy officials, which allowed his firm, Glenn Marine Defense Asia, to scam the Navy, prosecutors have said.
A total of 27 people have been charged for crimes related to deployments to Asia and based in Japan, including current and retired captains David Lausman, Donald Hornbeck, David Newland and James Dolan.
