Three soldiers killed and three injured in training accident in Georgia

Three U.S. soldiers were killed while three more were hurt in a training accident at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield on Sunday.

They were in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle that was involved in an accident at the Georgia base, Maj. Gen. Tony Aguto, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, said in a statement.

The soldiers who died in the accident were pronounced dead at the scene, while the others were taken to a local hospital, though details of the accident remain unknown. They were in the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team.

“Today is a heartbreaking day for the 3rd Infantry Division, and the entire Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield community,” Aguto said. “We are extremely saddened by the loss of three Dogface Soldiers, and injuries to three more. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families affected by this tragedy.”

This is the most recent military accident that has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. At least five have died and 43 troops have been injured in a litany of accidents over the past few weeks.

UPDATE: The Army has released the identities of the soldiers who died in the training: Pfc. Antonio Garcia, 21, of Arizona; Sgt. First Class Bryan Jenkins, 41, of Florida; and Cpl. Thomas Cole, 22, of Ohio.
