Comey to meet with black lawmakers about deaths of Castile, Sterling

FBI Director James Comey will meet with members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Tuesday to discuss the agency’s response to recent deaths of African-Americans at the hands of police officers, according to a Fox News report.

Comey, who has been engulfed in a now-concluded investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of private email servers while secretary of state, is set to meet with the caucus at 12:30 p.m. in the Longworth House Office Building.

Demonstrators took to the streets in cities nationwide Thursday after two black men, Alton Sterling of Baton Rouge, La., and Philando Castile of St. Paul, Minn., were killed by police officers in separate incidents this week. At the otherwise peaceful Dallas protest, a sniper opened fire on police, killing five officers and wounding seven others.

The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the Sterling case, and Minnesota’s governor has asked the department to look into Castile’s death.
