President Trump tweeted Saturday that the White House will be hosting newly elected Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte “shortly.”
“Just met the new Prime Minister of Italy, @GiuseppeConteIT, a really great guy,” Trump posted to Twitter. “He will be honored in Washington, at the @WhiteHouse, shortly. He will do a great job – the people of Italy got it right!”

Conte, who was inaugurated June 1, backed President Trump’s comments that Russia should be allowed back into the G7 summit after being voted out in 2014.
Trump made his claim Friday before departing for the G7, formerly G8, summit in Canada.
