Susan Sarandon on why she won’t back Clinton: ‘I don’t vote with my vagina’

Actress Susan Sarandon said Friday that she can’t justify voting for Hillary Clinton just because she’s a woman, and said she doesn’t believe Clinton or Donald Trump would do the right thing on issues like the environment.

“I want the right woman,” she told the BBC Friday. “There are great women that I admire that have headed nations. You’ve had a woman, I didn’t know how you felt about that. But I don’t vote with my vagina. This is bigger than that, and I don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about Trump and Hillary. This is bigger than this winning, who wins the election.”

Sarandon went on to say, according to the Telegraph, that she expects Clinton to win on Nov. 8 because of support from “neo-conservatives” and the media. But she listed several issues that make her nervous if Clinton or Trump in.

“I am worried about the wars, I am worried about Syria, I am worried about all of these things that actually exist,” she said. “I’m worried about fracking. I’m worrying about the environment. No matter who gets in they don’t address these things because money has taken over our system.”

The “Thelma & Louise” star spent a lot of time during the Democratic primary campaigning on behalf of Clinton’s opponent, socialist Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

This week, Sarandon said she will be voting for Green Party candidate Jill Stein for president.
