Democrats are facing a serious money problem ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, as they are unable to provide proper funding to several races in the final weeks.
Due to a lack of resources available to fund races in the House of Representatives, the Democratic Party has been forced to prioritize some races while letting others go underfunded. For example, in the 2nd District of Arizona, retiring Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) has asked Democrats to help Kirsten Engel, the Democratic nominee running to take her seat, as Republicans have spent over $1.3 million so far on TV, according to Politico.
“I know with every bone in my body that Engel will win this district if we can get DCCC investing sooner,” Kirkpatrick said. “I understand the impossible decisions they have to make each cycle, but coming in late and undervaluing this race is a huge mistake. This is a seat we keep blue if we go big now.”
‘IT’S THAT SIMPLE’: BIDEN GOES ALL-IN TYING REPUBLICANS TO FUTURE INFLATION
Democrats are facing similar issues in Texas, Pennsylvania, and California, with Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA) holding one of the most vulnerable districts for House Republicans, as President Joe Biden won the district by double digits in 2020. Despite this, Democrats have failed to capitalize on his vulnerability due to a lack of resources.

Tim Persico, the executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, described money being “the No. 1 factor” in abandoning races ahead of the midterm elections. Persico added that he would “love” to provide financial support to Engel.
Outside spending by Republicans is also forcing Democrats to give money to blue districts that, under normal circumstances, would remain blue. Money that would have been used for TV commercials airing in Arizona and California, which would have targeted Garcia, were canceled earlier this week by Democrats’ top super PAC.
