President Trump’s nominees for deputy and associate attorney general were both voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday.
Rod Rosenstein was approved by a 19-1 vote to be the next deputy attorney general. If approved by the full Senate later this week, he will be the No. 2 person in charge of the Justice Department, and will lead the agency’s investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election.
The vote for Rachel Brand for associate attorney general was along party lines, 11-9. If confirmed, she would be the third-ranking official in the department.
Both Rosenstein and Brand are former appointees of former President George W. Bush.
