Television host Megyn Kelly has officially split from NBC News and will be paid the remainder of her $69 million three-year contract.
“The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee of NBC,” the network said in a statement Friday night.
The announcement follows months of negotiations after Kelly was booted from the 9 a.m. hour of the Today show in October for making controversial comments regarding blackface Halloween costumes.
Kelly apologized for the comments and stopped appearing on the show, and originally, NBC said that she would be working in an “undefined role” for the remainder of her contract.
Other than the controversial statement on blackface, Kelly’s ratings were low and falling, especially compared to previous hosts of the 9 a.m. time slot of the Today show.
Since the hour was taken over by a rotating roster of hosts, including Dylan Dreyer, Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, there has been a 18 percent increase in viewers from Kelly’s average audience.
Previously, Kelly was an anchor at Fox News from 2014 to 2017.
