During the Reagan years, the Tory party was riding high with Margaret Thatcher at its helm. Today, as Irwin Stelzer writes in the current Weekly Standard, the party
has seen its vote total sink from 14 million in 1992 to 9 million earlier this year. This decline is particularly galling to a party that once was the mightiest electoral machine in the Western world–‘the natural party of government’ as it came to be regarded both by supporters and opponents.
Will they return to Downing Street anytime soon?
