Conservative journalist Andy Ngo is no longer an editor for the website Quillette after the publication of a video apparently showing him witnessing a right-wing group planning a violent attack and doing nothing about it.
Ngo, 33, has gained notoriety in recent months for covering antifa and right-wing confrontations in Portland, Oregon. The culmination for Ngo was when he was assaulted while covering a rally, in which he was hospitalized with a head injury.
The Portland Mercury published video on Monday that appears to show him watching the right-wing group Patriot Prayer making plans for a violent clash at a bar, which he did not report or try to stop. The website published a story from “Ben,” a pseudonym, who spent two years undercover with Patriot Prayer. Some of the people involved in the brawl now face felony riot charges.
“Ngo tags along with Patriot Prayer during demonstrations, hoping to catch footage of an altercation. Ben says Ngo doesn’t film Patriot Prayer protesters discussing strategies or motives. He only turns his camera on when members of antifa enter the scene,” the story states.
Hours after the article was published, Ngo removed “Intellectual Dark Web,” from his social media bio, while Quillette removed his name as an editor.
I want to address unfounded speculation about @MrAndyNgo‘s departure from @Quillette: Andy has been off work for @Quillette since July, after sustaining a traumatic brain injury. He is now moving onto bigger & better projects, & we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Quillette’s editor-in-chief Claire Lehmann pushed back on the claim that Ngo’s termination was a result of the video being published, saying he had been “off work” since July “after sustaining a traumatic brain injury.”
