Users of Amazon Inc.’s popular Prime service will soon get a discount at Whole Foods Market.
The Seattle-based company is offering subscribers an additional 10 percent off sale items at the grocery store as well as reduced prices on certain best-selling items. The discounts are currently only available at locations in Florida but will be expanded this summer to the 365 stores nationwide.
The initiative signals a further link between the e-commerce giant and the supermarket chain, which Amazon acquired last year. Whole Foods recently began offering a two-hour grocery delivery service through Prime, which is available in 10 cities and may be expanded later this year.
“Our vision is that every day, Prime makes your life better, easier and more fun, and shopping at Whole Foods Market with exclusive deals and savings is all of this,” Cem Sibay, the vice president of Amazon Prime, said in a statement.
Amazon previously raised the annual price of its Prime service, which has more than 100 million subscribers, by 20 percent to $119. The program offers a number of benefits to Amazon customers, including free shipping.
