White House chief of staff John Kelly’s solemn expression during President Trump’s rollicking news conference Tuesday caused a stir on Twitter.
Trump confronted the press after a speech on infrastructure Tuesday in New York when asked about his responses to violence over the weekend in Charlottesville, Va.
During Trump’s statements, Kelly was pictured looking stern with his head lowered.

Trump addressed his two responses to the violence, one given on Monday and the other on Saturday, and said the blame for violence was on “both sides.” Trump received criticism over the weekend for not explicitly calling out white supremacists and said on Saturday “many sides” were responsible for the violence.
While many members of Congress spoke out on Twitter against President Trump’s statements on Tuesday, many Twitter users took note of Kelly’s apparent displeasure with the President’s statements while watching the news conference.
Kristin Donnelly of NBC News uploaded a photo of the moment to Twitter, where users posted their interpretations of it and Kelly’s body language during the briefing.
Other users posted GIFs they believed embodied Kelly’s reaction to Tuesday’s briefing.
