Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez picked a side in the rivalry between the Yankees and the Mets.
The New York congresswoman did not pick the team that plays in her district.
Ocasio-Cortez told Yahoo News podcast “Skullduggery” on Sunday she’s a Yankees fan “through and through.” Her district includes part of the Bronx, where the team plays, but Yankee Stadium is not in the portion of the Bronx she represents. The Mets’ Citi Field, located in Queens, is in her district.
“I’m in trouble,” she said. “I have been raised a Yankees fan through and through. However, this is a huge feud in my family because a big part of the Bronx side of my family are also Mets fans.”
Noting that Citi Field is in her district, she said she’d have to “learn to be a Mets fan.”
“But I’m primarily a Yankees fan,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Sorry!”
Ocasio-Cortez is not the only New York politician to wade into a contentious baseball rivalry. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is a die-hard Red Sox fan. He has not attended a Yankees game since 2015.
