Famed comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried died at age 67 after a long illness, according to a Tuesday statement from the Gottfried family posted to Twitter.
“In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children,” the statement read.
The exact details regarding Gottfried’s “long illness” have not been confirmed.

Gottfried was born in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City on Feb. 28, 1955, and began his career as a stand-up comedian at 15 years old.
He starred on Saturday Night Live during a 12-episode run in 1980 before receiving one of his breakout roles with SNL partner Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop II, according to a report.
Known for his voice and loud comedic style, Gottfried is remembered for roles such as Iago in Aladdin and his voice portrayal of the Aflac Duck.
“Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor,” the family statement read.

Gottfried is remembered by his wife Dara and their two children Lily and Max.
