Fairfax County announced plans to open a new middle school in September 2012.
The new school — to be named in 2012 — will stand next to South County Secondary School at 8700 Laurel Crest Drive in Lorton.
The principal and specific school programs also will be chosen in 2012, said school staff, who intend to ask the Facilities Planning Advisory Council to consider “the scope of an appropriate boundary planning process” and to make a recommendation to the school board in the spring as to whether a boundary study is needed.
Fairfax has been hit with community backlash as it has changed its boundaries in recent years to fight overcrowding at many of its schools.
