D.C. police arrested a man who allegedly posed as a law enforcement officer Monday to commit two kidnappings and robberies in Northwest Washington.
Police arrested Caliss Johnson, 41, and charged him in connection with two of the three abductions that have taken place in the District since Thursday. Police were looking for a second suspect Monday evening.
In each instance, the suspects flashed a police badge, handcuffed the victims and forced them into an SUV, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The female victims were fondled, police said.
The suspects are described as dark-complexioned black men with facial hair and close-cut hairstyles. They are believed to be in their 30s and about 5-feet-10inches. One man weighs about 190 pounds, the other is extremely large. The vehicle is a Ford SUV with Virginia tags bearing the partial license “YW” or “YZ.”
Authorities said Johnson was involved in the first abduction which occurred in Georgetown in the 3000 block of M Street NW shortly after midnight Thursday. Johnson pulled up as a woman parked her car, police said. He told her she was driving a stolen vehicle. He then handcuffed and drove the woman around, threatening her with a handgun, police said. He drove her to an ATM in Maryland to obtain money, police said. He then released her.
About 9 p.m. Friday, Johnson and another man forced a couple out of a car in the motel parking lot in the 1300 block of Fourth Street Northwest, police said. The suspects took them to their motel room, then left with the woman. They took her money and released her.
Early Sunday, the suspects pulled over another couple stopped at a light at 13th and K Street Northwest. The suspects handcuffed the man and put a hood over his head and drove to an ATM machine to withdraw money, then released the couple.
Anyone with information about these crimes can call 202-727-9099. D.C. police are offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to a conviction.
