Despite rainfall, thousands turned out to protest the proposed Ground Zero mosque, half a block away from where the Islamic cultural center would sit:

Many of the protesters held signs, remembering those who were murdered on 9/11.

The actual site of the proposed Ground Zero mosque was cordoned off by the police. A temporary police tower had been set up, directly in front of the former Burlington Coat Factory.

Former firemen and other Americans, many who were directly affected by the 9/11 attacks, protested.

The counter protest, of not more than 100 folks, was a block away, on Church Street.

At the end, after many had left because of the intermittent rain fall, the remaining protesters marched the single block down toward the site where the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers once stood.
