President Trump outlined a hypothetical replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement from the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Trump first thanked Kennedy Wednesday — who served on the Supreme Court for 30 years — for trusting him enough to retire on his watch: “He felt confident in me to make the right choice and carry on his great legacy.”
The president told the crowd at his rally in Fargo, N.D., that he wants to pick a justice “that is going to be there for 40 years, 45 years.”
“We need intellect, we need so many things,” he continued. “There is so many elements that goes into the making of a great justice of the Supreme Court.”
