Mike Pence dishes on private meeting with Donald Trump amid VP chatter

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Donald Trump made no offer for the Hoosier State Republican to serve as his running mate during their meeting on Wednesday.

Pence told reporters it was “very humbling” for his family to meet Trump and for him to be considered as a vice presidential contender.

“It’s great to have them in Indiana, great to have a chance to break bread,” Pence told reporters. “Nothing was offered.

“Nothing was accepted, but we had a great conversation about the country, the challenges facing America and my firm belief that Donald Trump is going to provide the kind of leadership that America needs to strengthen our nation at home and abroad and give Americans the confidence that we will be appointing people to the Supreme Court that will stand by our Constitution.”

Pence lavished Trump with phrase in his remarks to reporters, calling Trump “a dedicated family man,” and a “great dad” who has a “good family.”

“I can just honestly tell you, Karen and I, and our daughter traveled about a week ago to spend time with [his] family,” Pence said. “We saw him off the campaign trail among friends and members of his company. These are good people.”

Pence avoided questions about whether running alongside Trump would hurt the GOP’s chances of keeping the Indiana governor position in Republican hands.

Trump, who is reportedly suing a former aide for violating a confidentiality agreement, also met in Indiana with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as he is considering who to choose as his vice presidential pick.
