WATCH: Grandmother uses cane to ward off purse snatcher

A 76-year-old Oakland, California, great-grandmother defended her elderly neighbor and stopped an attacker with the use of her cane.

“I never thought about it. Fear never crossed my mind — ’cause I’m crazy, I guess,” the great-grandmother, who goes by Miss Faye, told KGO. “I don’t know. It’s just something that’s in my nature. I do things, and it doesn’t bother me until a couple hours later. That’s how I’ve always been.”

Video from Miss Faye’s home Ring security system showed her running into the street when she saw the attacker attempting to steal her neighbor’s purse.

As the elderly neighbor was lying on the pavement, Miss Faye called for her German shepherd, Troy, to come help. The attacker dropped the neighbor’s purse and began to drive off as Miss Faye threw her cane at the car.

“If my knees weren’t hurting me, I think I would have been out there a little faster,” she said with a chuckle.

Miss Faye’s neighbors are calling her a hero, but her advice is to “just try to be neighborly.”

“Watch out for your neighbors and watch out for the surroundings, even for your personal self, because so many things has been happening lately. Not just in Oakland, but all over the world. And just be aware of your surroundings. That’s all I have to say about that,” Miss Faye said.
