A woman gave birth while stuck in traffic caused by a deadly motorcycle accident in Northeast Washington.
D.C. fire spokesman Pete Piringer said vehicles were being diverted around the traffic accident at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when authorities got a call from a woman that she was having a baby. The woman was in a car about a block away at New York and Florida avenues.
While the ambulance was enroute, the dispatchers spoke to the woman and gave instructions in the delivery of the baby. The child was born just moments before the paramedics arrived. The mother and child were taken to a hospital where they were doing fine, Piringer said.
The motorcyclist was killed when his vehicle struck a tractor trailer at on Florida Avenue and Eckington Place. Police have not identified the victim.
