Unvaccinated Howard students to be sent home

About 245 students in Howard will be sent home from school starting today if they aren?t administered the hepatitis B and chickenpox vaccines, schools spokeswoman Patti Caplan said.

The state required schools to send home students through ninth grade who weren?t vaccinated by Jan. 2, but many jurisdictions, including Howard, gave a grace period for students.

Carroll County did not offer a grace period, and all students currently are vaccinated, said Penny Bramlett, school health supervisor.

The Howard County Health Department will offer free vaccinations for the students at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Wednesday, Caplan said.
