Russia mocked for putting San Marino and Liechtenstein on ‘unfriendly countries’ list

Small countries such as San Marino and Liechtenstein ought to be careful after Russia released a list of countries on its bad side.

The Kremlin released a list on Monday detailing countries that have been “unfriendly” to Russia, according to CNN. The countries include Ukraine, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, and smaller countries such as San Marino and Liechtenstein.

The inclusion of San Marino, a small country surrounded by Italy, and Liechtenstein, another small country between Switzerland and Austria, left many people on social media confused.

The “unfriendly countries” list was released the same day Russia provided a list of demands that Ukraine must fulfill if it wants to end the war. The demands include Ukraine ceasing all military actions, changing its constitution to ensure neutrality, acknowledging Crimea as Russian territory, and recognizing two separatist territories in the Donbas region as independent territories.

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, multiple companies have removed access to their businesses in Russia. Netflix announced Sunday it has suspended its services in the country and stopped production of four of its Russian series. Visa and Mastercard suspended services in the country on Sunday, and American Express followed suit in Russia and Belarus.

A senior United States defense official from the Pentagon told reporters on Sunday that Russia had stationed “somewhere near 95%” of its troops along the Ukrainian border in Russia and Belarus. The Pentagon “observed limited changes on the ground over the past day” as Russian forces “continued efforts to advance and isolate Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv across the north and east are being met with strong Ukrainian resistance,” the official said.
