Queen Elizabeth II has canceled her planned appearance at a reception at the COP26 climate change summit as doctors advise her to rest following a recent hospitalization.
Other members of the royal family, who have accompanied the queen at events since the death of Prince Phillip, will still attend the reception. Those expected to attend as the aging monarch rests include Princes Charles and William and Duchesses Kate and Camilla.
“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message,” the palace announced Tuesday.
QUEEN ELIZABETH CANCELS TRIP TO REST UNDER MEDICAL ADVICE
The palace said the queen, 95, has taken on “light duties” at Windsor Castle after her hospitalization, which forced her to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland last week. The hospitalization was reportedly not related to COVID-19, but the palace has not stated whether the queen has received a booster shot.
The world’s longest-serving monarch returned to royal duties on Tuesday, participating in virtual meetings with South Korea’s ambassador to the United Kingdom Gunn Kim and Switzerland’s U.K. ambassador, Markus Leitner.
